Dear Alumni,
I am writing to seek your help and support for a faculty apartment project that is an integral part of a broader faculty development program at Aitchison College. As you would agree, the quality of an educational institution is inextricably linked to the quality of its faculty. We have all had the good fortune of being taught and mentored by some of the most inspiring and gifted teachers at Aitchison. It was not the buildings or the classrooms but these dedicated educationists who helped shape and mold us into what we are today.
As an old boy and a teacher, I now have the privilege and honor to serve our alma mater and my foremost priority is to further improve the standard of teaching and learning at Aitchison. That can only be done through the hiring and retention of high quality teachers who understand and imbibe the ethos of Aitchison - education that goes beyond the classroom and focuses on character building. Fundamental to the strategy of hiring and retaining good quality teachers is to offer them competitive remunerations, career progression, professional development and security of contract. Also, the availability of on campus subsidized housing in a beautiful 200-acre campus in the heart of the city is a major attraction for teachers in these times of high rentals, security concerns and increasing transportation costs. Moreover, there are multiple benefits to the College from having majority of the teaching staff resident on campus. It will create the space and time for greater, more meaningful interaction between teachers and students, particularly the boarders, and deepen the involvement of teachers in school activities outside the classroom.
At the moment out of a total of 265 teachers at Aitchison only 62 are resident on campus. Most of the existing faculty houses have no historic significance, are in a dilapidated condition and occupy large plots of land. The College requires multiple faculty apartment blocks so that at least 70% of its teachers reside on campus. A master plan for faculty apartments has been made by the College architect and we would soon begin construction of the first block. The apartment blocks will be located in residual areas that are not under any use currently and are at the College boundary. This will eventually free up substantial space where the existing faculty houses are located. These spaces will be converted into fields and play grounds for our students.
My request to you is to generously contribute towards building faculty apartments for our teachers. This brick and mortar investment is critical in our strategy to attract and keep the best teachers at Aitchison. Your contribution, irrespective of its size, will be duly recognized and acknowledged and shall go a long way in improving the quality of education at Aitchison. Those who would like to contribute please get in touch with me at [email protected] or Mr. Khalid Noon at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Dr. S.M. Turab Hussain
