Old Aitchisonians competed with the Senior School boys in the approximately 9.20 km Cross County Race on Friday 2nd December, 2016. A total of 96 participants ran the inaugural race of the Robinson Challenge Cup, named after the first Principal of Aitchison College, Walter Robinson.
Sajjad Ali Khan of LJ House won the Cup, finishing the race 1st in 35m 42.74s. Muizz Ali Khan of Bahawalpur House and Nosher Ali Khan of Kelly House finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Old Boy Unser Zaman, former Cross Country record holder from the batch of 1993, secured the 6th position.
Amongst the Old Boys, Unser Zaman was 1st (overall 6th), Usman Ahmed was 2nd (overall 8th) and Nisar Zaman was 3rd (overall 23rd). Old Boys Sayed Ahmed Hussain, Manzar Ali Khan, Jalal Ahsan, Khayam Mangat, Khawaja Mohammad Bakhsh, Daniyal Ashraf, Mumshad Ali and Suleman Khan also took part in the race.
The event was marked with an air of excitement and saw active participation from the students. The whole College had joined in to watch and support the runners. The students were also inspired by the enthusiastic participation of the Old Boys, who were delighted to be back at their alma mater.
The Old Boys were in high spirits when they gathered at the Dean’s Canteen after the race to enjoy their favourite hot dogs. “I ran the Cross Country after 23 years and it felt great! There were students cheering us on along the track. We relieved so many amazing memories,” said Unser Zaman.
The introduction of the Robinson Challenge Cup for Cross Country Race is one of the various initiatives by College Principal Michael Thomson to breathe new life into sports at Aitchison and to connect the Old Boys with their College.
